I simply cannot believe the overwhelming interest in my bread pudding recipe, the picture of which I posted a week earlier.  I am happy to share the recipe, which, by the way is my modified version after going through quite a few recipes and experiments.     I had thought who could be interested in a humble […]

Posted: Tuesday, October 17th, 2006 @ 12:36 am in Recipes | No Comments »

If you love potatoes like I do, this has got to be one of life’s simplest pleasures, and cheap too!  I don’t think there is a written recipe anywhere for this and I learned this from my late mother, who kind of tossed in those things and in a minute it was done.
Here is the […]

Fried Rice

Fried rice has got to be one of the most comforting foods to eat, easy to cook, has universal appeal and can be cooked in twenty or more different versions.  You can do it by country version, or by meat version or seafood version or vegetable version or combination of all of these.  There’s cross breed version - LOL!    […]

Salt Fish Curry - Indian Style

Posted: Tuesday, August 29th, 2006 @ 8:56 am in Fish Recipes | No Comments »

This is a little unusual as salted fish is used.  However it is no less delicious, and gives fish curry a little twist from the usual.  Best eaten with white rice.
Ingredients:  300g dried salted fish fillets; 500ml water; 250g grated coconut; 240g peeled & cubed unripe mango, from 4 small mangoes; 2 tbsp oil; 1-1/2 […]

Awesome Seabass Fish Recipe

Posted: Monday, August 28th, 2006 @ 11:26 am in Recipes, Fish Recipes | 1 Comment »

I have tried this recipe before and it’s as good as the one being served at the restaurant. This is another Asian recipe, which I believe originates from Malaysia, in Malay it’s called Siakap Tiga Rasa (literally Seabass Three Tastes).  Should have a wide appeal because it’s deliciously sourish, sweetish and spicy.  This could almost be a […]

Satay or Spicey Barbequed Meat

Posted: Monday, August 7th, 2006 @ 4:11 pm in Recipes | 4 Comments »

Nobody really cooks this at home!  At least not in this part of the world, because at every other street, there’s always a satay stall.  In Singapore (and Malaysia), you cannot miss the smell of these barbecued meats on sticks and the smoke that fills up the sidewalks.  In the west where bbq is a favourite social activity, […]

Chicken Rice Recipe

The Chinese makes up more than 75% of Singapore population, and thanks to them, we have inherited some great recipes which came down from China. Some have been localised to suit local taste.   This is not official but it seems to me that chicken rice has become somewhat of a national dish in Singapore, especially […]

Singapore Chilli Crabs

Posted: Monday, July 31st, 2006 @ 11:40 am in Recipes | 6 Comments »

This is one of my favourite chilli crab recipes, the famous Singapore chilli crabs have apparently many versions, depending whether you are Chinese, Malay or Indian.     A friend, Irene, gave this recipe to me a long time ago, and she’s Chinese and this version is more popular in the restaurants.  It’s tried and tested so many times, […]
